Anchored in the Mess, Rising in the Hope
Faith, forgiveness, and the power of a bloody, messy story
This past Sunday, I watched a hundred kids sprint across a field at our church’s Easter egg hunt — giggling, tripping, shouting with joy. And I thought: this is it. This is what renewal looks like. New energy. Fresh laughter. Hope passed down in plastic eggs and muddy shoes.
The Real Main Event
I’ve always felt that Christmas gets all the attention — and a lot of over-commercialization. But the truth is, Easter is the main event of the Christian calendar. It’s not that the birth of Jesus isn’t important — it is. But the crucifixion and resurrection? That is the moment. That’s the hinge the whole story swings on.
A Raw, Bloody Story of Grace
The Easter story isn’t pretty. It’s brutal. It’s raw. A man tortured and killed in the most horrific way imaginable — and somehow, through that act, we’re offered forgiveness and redemption. A colossal human failure met with divine grace. A higher power stepping in to say:
I forgive you. I’ll fix this.
It’s messy. It’s hard to look at. That’s the point.
Anchored in Something Bigger
I don’t know what your spiritual beliefs are — and I’ll never be the type to push mine on you. But I can tell you this: faith in a divine being beyond my comprehension and complete understanding anchors me. In a world that feels more chaotic and overwhelming every day, trusting in something bigger than me gives me a place to rest.
It’s why I can confidently say This Too Shall Pass,
or that Keeping Up is Impossible — and That’s Okay,
or that it’s okay to take a break,
or that we should do the hard work of understanding bias and building empathy.
That anchor allows me to show up with more grace — for myself and for others.
Wherever You Are
So if you’re a Christian: Happy Easter. He is risen.
And if your faith looks different than mine, I hope it anchors you just the same. We all need something to hold onto in these crazy times.
